Dear Advanced Learning Academy Families,

It was wonderful to see so many returning and new ALA families at the back to school events over the last few days at ALA at Euclid and Fox Tech.  Below are links to the ALA FT presentations for your reference. The Euclid Back to School event was come and go; therefore, there were not presentations, but there will be at our upcoming Village Orientations in the coming weeks. We will officially open the school year at both campuses tomorrow, Monday, August 12th!

8th Grade

9th Grade

10th Grade

11th-12th Grade

In preparation for the first day of school, we want to once again share a few reminders and updates.

Families may drop off students at both campuses as early at 7:30 am.  As a reminder, please do not drop off students earlier than 7:30 am at ALA at Fox Tech or Euclid, as there is no morning supervision of students prior to 7:30 am, and the school doors will remain locked until teachers and administrators report for supervision duty at 7:30 am.

ALA at Euclid

  • The official school day at ALA at Euclid is 8:10 am-3:25 pm. (3:15 PK)
  • We ask that students arrive no later than 8:00 am to give ample time to eat breakfast and transition to class.
  • At 8:10 am, the cafeteria doors will be closed.  If you’re running late, families should enter through the front door on Euclid, outside of the cafeteria (buzzed-in) because school will have begun.
  • Please review this link for complete information: PK-3 Arrival and Dismissal Procedures.
  • In the afternoons, our students who ride the bus will be on the main Euclid playground. Until the bus arrives, we ask that families who are wanting to utilize the outdoor space, please use the garden and Loose Parts Playground behind the gym.  Once we account for all of our bus students and get them loaded onto the bus, the main playground will be open for community use.
  • Unlike previous years, any Pre-K students enrolling this year will NOT have to pay tuition if they do not meet TEA PK qualifications.

ALA at Fox Tech

  • Due to air conditioning outages on the campus, some of our 8th-12th grade students’ classrooms may be temporarily relocated to CAST Tech on the 1st day of school. We will be meeting with district staff in the next few hours at the school to assess the situation. District maintenance has been working over the weekend to resolve the issues;  however, some repairs will likely be delayed until Monday when the needed parts arrive. We appreciate our sister campus, CAST Tech, welcoming us into their space and for their flexibility. We will have posted signs and adults to help direct any students who will be relocated.
  • Please follow this 19-20 Traffic Plan during arrival and dismissal.
  • Please review this link for complete information: Day 1 & 2 4th-12th Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

4th & 5th Families

  • The official school day for the 4th & 5th grade students is 8:10 am-3:50 pm.
  • We ask that students arrive no later than 8:00 am to give ample time to eat breakfast and transition to class.
  • There will be school faculty and staff ready to direct students to the cafeteria where they will gather for breakfast.
  • At 8:oo am, drop-off supervision on Buffalo Lane ends. If you’re running late, families should walk students into the ALA administrative building to check-in.
  • Please review this link for complete information: Day 1 & 2 4th-12th Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

6th & 7th Families

  • The official school day at for 6th and 7th grade students is 8:20 am-4:00 pm.
  • We ask that students arrive no later than 8:05 am to give ample time to eat breakfast and transition to class.
  • Passion Pursuits: Passion Pursuit classes (optional classes 7:30-8:15am) will not begin meeting until Friday, August 16th. Students wishing to sign up will have the opportunity to do so this week. Eddie Rios, Assistant Principal, will be coming through classes on Wednesday to confirm rosters and sign up anyone else who would like to join.

8th-12th Families

  • The official school day at for 8th-12th grade students is 8:30 am-4:00 pm.
  • We ask that students arrive no later than 8:15 am to give ample time to eat breakfast and transition to class.
  • On Monday morning, students will report to grade-level advisories to receive a new and/or an updated copy of their schedule. Signs will be posted regarding locations.
  • All this week, faculty and staff will be meeting with 8th-12th students who wish to change their schedule. On the first day of school, our priority is making sure we meet with any student who is missing a core class (math, science, English, social studies, and world language) before meeting with students who wish to change elective classes. Please know that we are working as quickly as possible to get students into the correct classes, so they do not miss valuable instruction. ALA teachers anticipate schedule changes during the first week of school and will assist students who may join the class on the second or third day of school. Please reassure your student that we are committed to crafting the very best schedule possible for each student, and all students wishing to change their schedule will have the opportunity to meet with us to discuss their course options.

On Friday, August 16th, we will officially and formally open the new school year at our annual Advanced Learning Academy Opening Ceremony. Families are invited to attend our ALA Opening Ceremony beginning at 9:30am in the Fox Tech campus amphitheater. Due to very limited parking and ongoing construction, we recommend that you arrive on campus no later than 8:45am to give you plenty of time to find a parking spot, check in at the main office for a visitor’s pass, and settle into the amphitheater in a designated parent seating section. To reach the baseball field, cars should turn down the small road off of N. Flores Street, just north of the American Gi Forum. After parking and crossing N. Flores, families may access the campus through the pass gate on Galitzen.  All of our students, including those from ALA on Euclid, with the exception of our Pre-K students, will be in attendance.

We are looking forward to a great first day of school!

Sincerely,

Kathy Bieser
