Dear Advanced Learning Academy Families,
Even with the air conditioning challenges at our ALA FT campus, we had a great first week of school filled with laughter and learning as our community gathered together after the summer break. I walked the ALA FT campus earlier this afternoon with district officials. I am happy to report that our two new chillers have been installed and the entire building, including the 3rd floor, feels great! As we head into the second week of school, we have a few more reminders and updates to share.
We are looking forward to seeing families at Village Orientation Night on Thursday, August 29th from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Each village will share a short presentation from 5:30-6:00pm, followed by time for families to visit with teachers and ask questions. Our PreK teachers will offer two identical sessions from 5:30pm to 5:50pm and 6:10pm to 6:30pm to allow PreK families with older siblings able to attend both orientation presentations.
We are currently accepting applications for the Advanced Learning Academy 2019 BEST Robotics Team! We are looking for 9th through 12th grade students to participate in this amazing opportunity. The competition season runs from September 14 through October 27 and potentially into early December as the team advances to the regional championship in Dallas. The team will meet on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4-5:30 pm. Students will also need to attend weekend events. Interested students should fill out the application and return to Mrs. Sauter in room 343 on or before Monday, September 9th.
For all ALA students who are interested in other clubs, please look for information in next week’s update!
We have reminders about the arrival and dismissal traffic for the ALA FT campus and a few adjustments to share that have been made after observing traffic patterns over the last week.
ALA FT Arrival Reminders
Please review this AM Arrival Map (AM PDF) to determine the correct route for student drop off in the morning. During arrival, we are routing all vehicles from Main Avenue to continue Southbound with no right turn onto Buffalo Lane. Due to construction, there is no drop-off area on Main Avenue at this time. This procedure is in place to ease congestion and promote student safety. We also want to remind families that drop off and supervision begins at 7:30am.
ALA FT Dismissal Reminders
Please review this PM Dismissal Map (PM PDF) to determine the correct route for student pick-up in the afternoon. During dismissal, we are routing all vehicles from Main Avenue to continue Southbound with no right turn onto Buffalo Lane. Due to construction, there is no pick-up area on Main Avenue at this time. This procedure is in place to ease congestion and promote student safety. Our 6th and 7th families are asked to pick-up in the large parking lot. If a 6th-12th grade student has a 4th/5th grade younger sibling at ALA, he/she may be picked up with the 4th/5th grader on Buffalo Lane. If you are the parent/guardian of a 4th/5th grader with an older sibling, we ask that you arrive closer to 4:00pm for pick-up since the 6th-12th graders are not dismissed until 4:00pm. This will allow us to keep traffic flowing through the 4th/5th pick-up lane. If you do arrive before the older sibling arrives, we will direct you to the small parking to wait. Only 4th/5th grade families waiting for an older sibling may wait in the small parking lot. Families in this situation will be provided a sign to place on their dash.
Congratulations to all of the 4th-12th grade students that auditioned for the Beauty and The Beast cast and crew. The cast list is posted on the ALA Call Board in the Fine Arts building across from the theatre in the main hall. ALL students are asked to initial by their name, so that we know it has been seen by each member or family. Additionally, the cast list was saved to the ALA Theatre Production FB page. If you need a link to that site, because your child is in the show or a theatre class, please email Ms. Stengel, Mr. Estudillo, or Mrs. Bianco for the link. Our theatre directors are all very proud of the hard work and creative energy of all of the students that came out to the auditions.
Have a great week!
