Dear Advanced Learning Academy Families,

We hope that your family is enjoying the cooler weather this weekend! Although it is a short week after Monday’s student holiday, we have a lot going on at ALA over the next few days.

We are excited for clubs to start this Tuesday, October 16th at the Euclid campus.  Families that filled out the form for club preferences should have received a letter and an email from a club sponsor with details and contact information should you have any questions.  Our ALA Euclid clubs finish at 4:30pm and students will be at the front of the school for pick-up.

On Thursday, October 17th, we will host our first nine-weeks Report Card Pick Up Night for 4th-12th grade from 5:30pm-7:30pm at ALA FT.  Our 7th grade students will also be exhibiting The Stories That Shape Us PBL from 5:00-6:30pm that evening. All families are invited to attend! Report cards for our Euclid campus will be sent home later in the week with students.

Student internships were one of many hopes and dreams we had for ALA as we began the design of the school three years ago, and we’re excited to share that the second year of ALA Senior Internship Program is well underway! Through participating in an internship, students gain real-world work experience that will be valuable in informing their future decisions. This  ALA Internship Handbook outlines details of the program. Seniors have an internship class built into their schedule allowing for students a consistent time and day to attend. We are looking for internships in the area of parks and recreation, land conservation and preservation, business and finance, and the medical field. If you are interested in hosting an ALA intern, or know someone who would, please contact Tiffany Jenkins at or (210) 789-9735.

While the internship program targets our seniors, we are also launching the 2nd year of another initiative for our 8th-12th grade students called Careers & Cuisine, a lunch lecture series that allows students to learn about career paths and occupations.

We are inviting guest speakers to sign-up and speak on Thursdays at lunch in the ALA FT library from 11:30-12 throughout the semester. If you are interested in being a guest speaker for Careers & Cuisine, or if you know someone who would be a good candidate,  contact Tiffany Jenkins at or (210) 789-9735. She will be able to discuss details and schedule in guest speakers.

Have a wonderful week!

Kathy Bieser
