Dear Advanced Learning Academy Families,

The ALA Freshman Team asked me to invite families to a fundraiser tomorrow, Monday, October 28th. The ALA Class of 2023 will be hosting a fundraiser at Bamboo Chinese Restaurant, located at 1010 S Flores #111. Mention ALA, and a portion of the funds raised will go to benefit the freshman Climate Change trip to Corpus Christi.

On Tuesday, October 29th, our freshmen, sophomore and juniors will be attending a book talk at the Witte Museum featuring Lorenzo Gomez who will be discussing his newest book, Tafolla Toro: Three Years of Fear. Our very own ALA theater students will be performing a reader’s theater to kick-off the event.  Please ask your student for a permission slip if you have not signed one yet. Every student in attendance will also receive a copy of the book!

ALA families are invited to view the new Volunteer Opportunities sheet to sign up to chaperone field trips or volunteer on campus. New opportunities will be added each month. If you are not already cleared to volunteer, please submit your request online at Families may contact Veronica Orta, Family and Community Engagement Specialist, at

On Tuesday, October 29th, show tickets for Beauty and The Beast go on sale in the Fine Arts building lobby at 4:00 to 6:30pm.  This show promises to sell out. Show dates are November 7-9th at 7:30pm, and there is a matinee on November 9th at 2:30pm.  Tickets are $10.00 per person. Ticket sales benefit theatre student travel, our upcoming UIL productions, and Spring Show!

Looking ahead, Euclid bike rodeo will take place the morning of Friday, November 8th. All students are welcome to participate. Bike drop off will begin at 7:30am while the event begins at 9:00am. Students may take their bikes to the gym and then return to breakfast or the playground. Please use duct tape and a sharpie pen to label your child’s bike with name, village and grade. If you would like to volunteer or act as a judge, please email Jeremiah Birmingham at email

Friday, November 1st, is a student holiday for all ALA students, as we have adopted a calendar that varies slightly from the official SAISD instructional calendar.

Finally, families are invited to visit The Pearl this weekend to view an altar created by our students for Dia de los Muertos.  Our altar will be dedicated to the lost loved ones of our students.

Have a wonderful week!
