Dear Advanced Learning Academy Families,

Early tomorrow morning, our 8th grade teachers, students and support staff will depart on the 1st Annual Civil Rights Field Experience in Jackson, Mississippi and Birmingham, Montgomery and Selma, Alabama.  The week-long trip is an extension of the students’ study of the Civil Rights Movement. The experience includes time at the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, 16th Street Baptist Church, the Rosa Parks Museum, and the newly opened Legacy Museum and Memorial.  Our students will be challenged to understand the past and connections to contemporary human rights issues.  This ambitious and unique opportunity is the result of our teachers’ commitment to learning outside the walls of the schools and months of organization by the 8th grade team. We look forward to hearing about the powerful learning that will take place.

Two other ALA FT groups will  be traveling this week. Our 10th and 11th grade students will be visiting the H-E-Butt Foundation Outdoor School and our theater department is traveling with students to the Texas Thespian Theatre conference and competition in Dallas.  We wish everyone safe travels!

Additionally, our theatre departmentment will host auditions for the Middle and High School One Act Plays, and the Spring Show, 39 Steps, a murder comedy mystery play on November 18th and 19th from 4 to 6pm. Please see that your student reads the family letter and  fills out the following forms, and signs up for a time. If they are unable to sign-up for any reason on the form, please have your child drop by the theatre on Monday, November 18th.  These notices are for the cast AND the crew of all productions.
