Community Update: January 19, 2020

Sunday, January 19, 2020

Dear Advanced Learning Academy Families,

This weekend, our Fox Tech campus (ALA, CAST Tech and Health/Law magnet) swim team competed in the District Meet.  The campus had eleven students, including two ALA students, who qualified for the Regional Meet in two weeks in Corpus Christi. Congratulations to our swimmers and best of luck at Regionals!

Tomorrow, Monday, January 20, 2020, is a student and staff holiday in observance of Martin Luther King Day.  We invite the ALA community to join us in San Antonio’s annual MLK March, which is believed to be the largest march of its kind in the nation. Families may ride an SAISD bus from ALA Fox Tech to the march or meet us at MLK Academy to march with the school.  Interested families should review this flier and fill out the participant form if you are riding the bus. We will gather in the ALA Fox Tech parking lot at 8:15am and depart at 8:30am.  After the march, the bus will return families to ALA Fox Tech. Families may email Monica White, ALA Administrative Intern, at with questions.

Our K-3 classes are excited to visit the DoSeum this week.  All three field trips will be from 10amto 1pm, but each Village will attend a different day according to the following schedule:

Village C – Wednesday, January 22

Village A – Thursday, January 23

Village B – Friday, January 24

Students will be eating lunch on the field trip.  Please let your child’s teacher know if he/she will need a sack lunch from the cafeteria. Parent volunteers are also still needed as chaperones for all three field trips.  Please let your child’s teacher know if you are able to help. Please note the cost for chaperones at the DoSeum is $10.

We will end the week with 9th and 10th grade Saturday School on January 25 from 9amto 12pm. Students are invited to come to campus and work with teachers in support of upcoming work deadlines or on revisions.

The first Family Field Trip of 2020 will also take place this weekend on Saturday, January 25. Families are invited to joing us at The Twig Bookstore in the Pearl (306 Pearl Parkway, 78215) at 10:30am to participate in the guest series.  The dinosaur from the How Do Dinosaurs Say books will be present. Families are also encouraged to enjoy the Farmer’s Market at The Pearl. Please reach out to Mrs. Chrissy at with questions about this event or to share any ideas about possible future events!

Looking ahead, on Saturday, February 8, we will host our first Word Play Saturday. Families may join us for a morning of family fun and creative thinking through writing, conversation, and games from 9:30 to 11:30 am at the ALA Fox Tech Library. This is an event for people of all ages, though activities will be most accessible to those 2nd grade and up.  Please visit to RSVP.  Questions regarding this event can be directed to Emily Delgado at . We also want to thank the SAISD Foundation for the mini-grant they awarded to Ms. Delgado to  make World Play Saturday possible! Thank you, Ms. Delgado for bringing this opportunity to ALA!

Have a wonderful week!
