Dear Advanced Learning Academy Families,

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of watching our ALA Middle School one act play cast and crew compete at the district meet at Burbank High School. They performed a children’s comedy, The Poet and The Rent, by David Mamet.   Our theatre team won a superior rating, the highest rating offered, as well as ten different individual medals that include a tech award, best performer, all-star cast, and honorable mention.  We are so proud of Max Estudillo and Amy Stengel, their directors, and the cast and crew of this production!

On Tuesday, February 4th, we will be hosting an ALA High School Information Night from 6-7:30 pm in the ALA @ Fox Tech Library for current students and prospective 2020-2021 freshmen along with any other community members who would like to learn more about our high school program.  Students and families will have the opportunity to learn more about college credit, internships, field and travel experiences, elective classes, athletics, our global design focus, PBL and much more! Please see this flyer for more details about the event.

The second and third graders at ALA created a recipe book as a culmination of their cooking PBL. The cookbooks are to support the ALA seniors after graduation, thus many of the recipes are simple, affordable, and easy to make. The proceeds from the cookbook sales will go to support the ALA senior class trip to Washington DC. Each recipe book is $10. The deadline to return the order form is Friday, February 14th. Please note, if you placed an order at the December Platica, there is no need to place another one. The orders should be filled before the end of March. Note that all second grade students, third grade students, and seniors will receive a free copy of the cookbook.

On Saturday, February 8th, we will host our first Word Play Saturday. Families may join us for a morning of family fun and creative thinking through writing, conversation, and games from 9:30am to 11:30am at the ALA Fox Tech Library. This is an event for people of all ages, though activities will be most accessible to those 2nd grade and up.  Please visit to RSVP.  Questions regarding this event can be directed to Emily Delgado at

Have a great week!
