Dear Advanced Learning Academy Families,
Tomorrow morning our seniors depart for the Washington D.C. where they will be studying how climate change is being addressed through legislation. During their time in Washington, students will visit with two congressional representatives from Texas to learn about current United States policy, and how the youth can make a difference. We wish our seniors safe travels and look forward to welcoming them home on Thursday evening. Many thanks to Tiffany Jenkins and Dan Mallette, two of our ALA teachers, for their leadership in organizing this valuable experience.
This Tuesday, an individualized Family Experience Survey will be sent home with students. Our results and response rate will be included on ALA’s School Performance Framework, which measures ALA’s academic performance, school culture and climate, and social-emotional learning. We ask that families take 10-15 minutes to complete this important survey as soon as possible.
On Wednesday, February 12th, SAISD will notify families of the lottery results for prospective ALA students entering Pre-K, 6th, and 9th grade next school year. Additionally, a limited number of seats will also be offered to families on the waitlist in our non-lottery grades (Kinder-8th). We are looking forward to welcoming new families to the ALA community in 20-21.
The recent application deadline has many families asking about how to secure their students seat at ALA for next school year. All that current families need to do in order to secure their seat is to complete registration. However, registration for the 2020-2021 school year does not open until Monday, March 2nd, for returning families and families new to our campus. Registration will once again be completed through SchoolMint, the SAISD enrollment platform. As many of our school resources (human and financial) are based on registration numbers, we kindly request that families complete the registration process as soon as the registration window opens on March 2nd. Your timely completion of registration will aid in our ability to purposefully plan for the coming school year. Please look for more details in the upcoming community update!
Finally on Friday, February 14th, is a student holiday for all ALA students and Monday, February 17th is a student holiday for all ALA and SAISD students. ALA has adopted a calendar that varies slightly from the official SAISD instructional calendar. Here is the ALA 2019-2020 Instructional Calendar for your reference. As soon as the SAISD 20-21 Instructional Calendar is approved, we will be sending out the 20-21 ALA Calendar to our families. We anticipate we will be able to publish our calendar prior to spring break, if not before.
Have a wonderful week!
